Roof Terrace

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The new City of Newcastle Council building in Stewart Avenue included a rooftop terrace. Designed in consultation with CoN the terrace is connected to the staff kitchen as well as the offices of the Mayor and the General Manager.

The roof terrace provides an area for passive outdoor recreational activities such as film nights and events, Council presentations, meetings, lunchtime space, visitor gatherings and formal events.

The terrace design was a response to various constraints including an elevated paver surface, high winds, limited access, window cleaning scaffolding setbacks. The roof garden provides a highly adaptive functional space that is also visually pleasing space in both day and night. The custom designed planters and furniture is unique to this project allowing different group seating areas for privacy.

A section of the planting is dedicated to Aboriginal food plants. All planters and stage elements are custom designs with the planters fabricated to our specification..
