Honeysuckle Park

Australian Institute of Landscape Architects [AILA] NSW 2023 Winner Regional Development Award.

Terras are engaged to undertake the Honeysuckle foreshore urban design and public open space landscape foreshore promenade on Newcastle Harbour. This is a five year development program and will provide the landscaping and provision of the foreshore promenade for some of the most significant foreshore space along the harbour.

The design and opening of the the recent Honeysuckle Park provides a new quality in the provision of the open space including many of the wishes of local residents to provide shaded bbq facilities, water access, amenities and playground areas. Locating the promenade path away from the waters edge allows pedestrians to relax on the waters edge, providing more soft landscape and shade.

The maritime history has been highlighted with the restoration of old navigation lights as an artwork feature, inlaid plaques of historical ships, refence to the rail line used to load the ships, shade structure forms reminiscent of the coal trucks and a themed tall ship playground and tall ship sail.
